Tips to Improve your Drawing Skills
In this post I am going to give you tips to improve your drawing. I assure you these definitely work. When followed them, you will gradually see improvement in your artwork.
Below are 5 tips that will help you enhance your drawing and get it to a whole new level :)
1. Paper
THE TYPE OF PAPER YOU USE MATTERS A LOT. IT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE OUTCOME OF YOUR ARTWORK.
If you are still using printer paper ( very thin, easily bent ) then I recommend you to stop using it. Printer paper is normally of 80 gsm (weight) It is too light and thin that it cannot hold your colour medium be it watercolour, colour/graphite pencils etc.
I recommend paper with 140 gsm for all art medium. Some Brands which I like to use - Sundaram, Strathmore
2. Reference
As beginners we draw from a tutorial, reference images etc. But what we tend to do is focus on our own drawing. We rarely fully observe the reference photo which we are supposed to draw like.
The point here is, LOOK CAREFULLY AT YOUR REFERENCE PHOTO IN EACH STEP.
Ask yourself - Did I miss out anything? Is it a straight or a curve line? If curved where does it bend?
And you will be able to draw much similarly like an artist.
3. Highlights and shadows
In every drawing, highlights, shading and shadows are necessary for it to look real. They give the subject shape and form.
When light hits an object it forms highlights where it directly touches the object. The areas that are hidden from the light are called shadows.
If you want a realistic drawing, you need to keep in mind to ADD THE HIGHLIGHTS AND SHADOWS WHEVER NECESSARY.
4. Time Taken
Personally, I found out that the more time I take to complete a drawing, the more it becomes realistic.
Adding more layers helps the drawing to come intact. So always remember to spend more time on it.
DO NOT RUSH. Be patient and you'll see the outcome :)
There is no better tip to improve in your drawing skills other than practice.
As the saying goes " PRACTICE MAKES MAN PERFECT " applies to drawing too.
The more you practice, the better you get. So draw daily, even if its a little bit BUT draw!!
So with this, you have your 5 tips that will definitely help you improve your Drawing Skills.
